season 2017 2018Fort Lauderdale’s own professional Symphony of the Americas, under the direction of its award-winning Maestro James Brooks-Bruzzese, is celebrating its 31st Anniversary year of bringing the best of classical music to the multi-cultural population of South Florida. As an officially designated Broward County Major Cultural Institution, its International Guest Artist Series is presented in its performance home at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Highlights for 2018-19 will include Uruguayan pianists Enrique Graf and Ciro Fodere plus a new work by Florencia di Concilio (known for her musical film scores premiered at Cannes) in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the big screen photo-choreography of “Magico” with full orchestra, the internationally renowned visual artist DUAIV, painting his inspiration on stage during the February series performance, acclaimed clarinetist Vovka Ashkenazy, a “Musical Bond” with the James Bond piano concerto, and to finish the season, long-time NY Philharmonic concertmaster Glenn Dicterow.

Under the Maestro’s leadership, the Symphony has taken an inventive approach each season to combining classical music with other art forms on stage to engage and develop new audiences – international guest artists encompass the drama and intensity of opera, toe-tapping Broadway, and the rhythms of Spanish zarzuela. The orchestra’s musical legacy has been captured on PBS and more than 30 compact disc recordings.
Since its inception, the Symphony has collaborated closely with non-profit cultural organizations and municipalities to present outreach concerts to audiences throughout South Florida as well as a myriad of educational programs with ensembles and full orchestra.

The Internationally renowned Summerfest, hosts soloists of acclaimed European chamber orchestras for six weeks each summer, joined by selected members of the Symphony of the Americas for concerts throughout Florida and the Americas under Maestro Brooks Bruzzese’s baton.

The Symphony, takes a leadership role in fostering cultural relations with the Americas, initiating musical exchanges throughout Europe, the US, Central and South America. As a collaborator with community organizations and various South Florida cities, the Symphony performs outreach concerts throughout Palm Beach County, as well as in Weston, Boca Raton, Deerfield Beach, Pembroke Pines, Hollywood and Miami – all woven into the fabric of our community in parks, museums and libraries. Performances are captured on compact discs distributed nationally and internationally
